Four boys, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr, came together in 1962 and changed the world. They soon would become the most famous band in the world. They are The Beatles. In 1957, John Lennon formed a small band called The Quarrymen with a few of his friends. Paul McCartney joined a few shows later, and, a year later, George Harrison was invited. Lennon was hesitant because of George’s age, but after seeing his talent on the guitar, there was no question about it.. Ringo Starr would sometimes fill in for Pete Best (the original drummer for the band) when he was sick. In 1962, George Martin felt as though Pete Best’s drummer career with the band had come to an end so Ringo Starr was asked to join. The Beatles hit the ground running. Instantly after the release of their first single, they received so much praise for it and went to America for their debut on The Ed Sullivan Show. This blew them up and for the next seven years, they were the hot topic in all of the magazines. As time went on, more albums were released and more concerts were performed. Money was flowing in while music was flowing out. This was a vicious cycle of success. Like all good things, there’s an end. Towards the end of The Beatles career, everyone seemed to drift their own ways. It started in 1966. The band was in their fourth year of having the spotlight and by this time, everything was too much. George Harrison, John Lennon, and Ringo Starr were all beginning to hate touring. “In 1966 the road was getting pretty boring,” Ringo Starr recalled in the Beatles Anthology documentary. “It was coming to the end for me. Nobody was listening at the shows. That was OK at the beginning, but we were playing really bad” (Runtagh). Finally, at their last performance, it became too much for the band members to handle the crowds and screams so they called it quits on having concerts. Three years later, in 1969, they unofficially ended the band. The band's last performance was in 1969. “A few minutes before the concert was due to start, the band huddled in a small vestibule at the top of the stairs. They had cold feet. “George didn’t want to do it, and Ringo started saying he didn’t really see the point,” says Lindsay-Hogg. “Then John said, ‘Oh, f*ck it — let’s do it’” (Runtagh). A year later, in 1970, they announced to their fans and the world that their career as The Beatles was over. As years progressed, each band member went down their own paths and all invented and outstanding solo careers in music.
